GETTIN’ CURLY WITH IT
I promised YouTube tutorials, and here’s my first one! 99.9% of the time, I wear my hair in a ‘stretched’ state. i.e, not in it’s natural kinky coily state. I do this because 1.) i’m lazy and 2.) tangles. lots of tangles. I used to be queen of the Wash n’ Go, but due to some self inflicted curl damage cause by over zealous hair straightening last year, i’ve had to nurse my hair back to health by keeping it stretched and in a protective style until my hair reaches Bra strap length so i can safely trim off the damage without losing too much length.
THE GOOD…
These will stretch your hair from root to tip. I have thick kinky type 4 hair and this gets my hair more ‘straight’ than a blow-dry, plus it’s less damaging as there is no heat and minimal manipulation. Another great thing is that the curls are all identical so they look ‘balanced’ if that makes sense? They all sort’ve flow together really well, and the curls themselves are soft, bouncy, pliable and natural looking. If you want a tighter curl and a better stretch i’d recommend the ‘Long and Narrow’ Kit, rather than the ‘Long and Wide’ Kit that i used for the tutorial below.
THE BAD…
I’m still not one million percent sold on Curlformers, because both the long and narrow, and wide and long have set me back approximately £80, which if you compare it to the price of a pair ghd’s or a good quality curler, isn’t too bad, but the fact that they’re fairly easy to snag / break, I think the mesh of the Curlformers needs a little re-working as i’ve lost approximately 3 curlers and 2 wands and i’ve only used the sets about six times which i don’t think is very good.
So are they worth it? Hmmm i’d say 80% yes, if the mesh of the curlers was stronger and the wands better made i’d say 100%. Though if you’re like me and you’re trying to avoid using heat, i’d say they are definitely worth a try, especially if your hair is long as you’ll get stretched soft curly hair with minimal effort, unlike a braid out or twist out. Also, these are pretty much fool proof and you know how your hair will turn out every time.
What do you think? Would you give them a whirl? PS, I’ll be filming a tutorial on this updo, as i’ve had so many questions about it! 🙂
