Dance To The Beat Of Your Own Drum.

In the words of our beloved Shia LeBoeuf, “Just DO it!”

A few weeks ago, a thought popped up in my head and I wondered idly… “What will happen when I run out of things to photograph and blog about?”. And that thought followed me around, swirled around my head and made me squint. The answer? I have not a single clue. Will In My Sunday Best end up a desolate graveyard of a twenty something year old’s odd sartorial choices and too much information writings complete with endless unmoderated spam comments relating to Viagra? Or would I just get bored one day and hit the delete key (If there is one?). The truth is, (And please no tiny violins yet, hear me out) i think i was feeling like i’m not ‘hip’ or ‘cool’ enough to be a blogger, and i think the fact that i used the words hip and cool in one sentence alone shows that i am not but i digress… You see blogging has become a powerful force, people are being taken seriously and bloggers are getting big bucks for their work, as they should be! Bloggers I began with and indeed bloggers who have started a year ago have far surpassed me in regards to blog achievements and sometimes I sit down and think oh sh*t, should I be doing this too? What should I be doing?! Omfg help! So, in essence today’s post will be a wordy albeit upbeat one, about loving your work, yourself and being proud of yourself!

Comparison is the thief of joy as the old saying goes, and whilst it’s healthy to look at other people’s work and be inspired by it, you should not compare yourself to anyone, especially in blogging! It’s such  a mixture of luck, hard work, timing and being on trend sometimes that can seal the deal, and I’ve noticed a lot of people i started blogging with back in 2011 have abandoned their little pieces of the internet as they’ve found it hard to keep up with. I’ll share with you a little golden nugget my friend Sherida shared with me whilst I was indeed running through the six (and the fridge) with my woes during a phone call with her. She said that everyone loves Queen B, and she’s crazy popular and beautiful and people aspire to be like her and that’s amazing but there are also people like Bjork who is equally as amazing but may have a smaller following or reach but it doesn’t mean that people hate her music or anything, it’s just that her niche market is very different. And that my friends was the little lightbulb moment I needed to feel inspired to feel good about my little blog baby, and I hope it makes you feel good about yours too, regardless of if you have a following / readership of 1 million or even just 1. Keep doing what you’re doing, and remember why you’re doing it in the first place. In my case, blogging is, and will always be a hobby. If you’d like your blog to take off and you’d like to be the next Leandra Medine, work towards that goal, create content that you love, take beautiful photographs, write passionately! You don’t have to have a designer wardrobe (Although I wouldn’t say no to the Mansur Gavriel Mini Bucket Bag if anyone is buying…), or a huge DSLR, or live in Kensington, you just haves to have heart, and to offset the cheesiness I will admit that it definitely is and will be easier for some rather than other but it’s something that you’ll just have to take on the chin during your blogging adventures.

I think it's a long way ahead before you run out of things to say. I think it'd be really cool if you incorporated some architectural subjects in to your blog posts I think that'd be pretty different.I'm yet to see a really good architecture blog. Lovely post as always.theefectivetimes.blogspot.com

I love this post! Such gorgeous, fun photos and I agree with a lot of what you say here. I've been feeling a bit of self-doubt lately, too, which I think is more likely to happen when you do get those things you feel you need… I just bought a full-frame camera because I want to be a pro photographer and the investment makes sense, so of course I'm wondering, is it even going to change anything? Am I good enough?

I love this dress so much.I have been thinking about this a lot recently. In July my blog will have been a thing for five years. I can't. Not much has happened on my side in terms of "followers" but I'm glad that my writing and ideas have gotten better. I have ideas I want to pitch but then I look at my social numbers and think, "nah." It's mostly questions.Sharrouts, Sherida.

I guess we're at the same point because lately I've been feeling like my blog is unworthy and not doing as well as I want it too. But the analogy your friend gave – Beyonce vs Bjork is such a good one to keep in mind.Looking lovely btw.Berry Dakara Blog

Can't decide whether I love the post or the dress more! The Dress: I got a very very similar one from Boohoo, but when it arrived, there was something disappointing about the off shoulder sleeves. I packed it up to return but maybe I'll give it a second look now! Why is this dress sold out now!The Post: Only started blogging 4 months ago, and I honestly didn't know there were so many blogs out there. Goodness. I almost shut down when I realised.. Like out of all these blogs, who is going to read mine? But I love it so much – but again, early days. But even when just 1 person tells me they like a blog post, it means so much to me. So yes, comparison is so unnecessary and I tell myself this everyday. Bjork v Beyonce: Not crazy about Beyonce and I don't know Bjork. I'm weird. Love the, I typed up something similar the other night but didn't post it in the end. Everyone I started blogging with has far surpassed me and I was thinking of giving up. I'm still going though, just for the fun of itLaurenlivinginaboxx | bloglovin

Wow. Thank you thank you thank you for this. Like Kachee I recently started blogging too except it's not been up to a month. And as I got more familiar with my niche and blogosphere I've been kinda scared. Who would want to listen to me when everyone is out here being fabulous. I've been having some moments of self doubt. And for a while I unfollowed all the "major" bloggers just to take my mind off it. I had to take a screenshot of these words to remind myself: "create content that you love, take beautiful photographs, write passionately! You don't have to have a designer wardrobe (Although I wouldn't say no to the Mansur Gavriel Mini Bucket Bag if anyone is buying…), or a huge DSLR, or live in Kensington, you just haves to have heart" It pretty much sums up my whole struggle. I talk/write a lot I'm sure you can tell by now, lol. Long story short, thank you.

Aww I really loved this post Sade and you look so gorgeous btw. I think I lot of people start comparing themselves to others but it's so destructive. Another person's success shouldn't define how we feel about our own or lack of. I love your blog and always look forward to your posts x

Sade, this was such handy post. I blog as well and there's always that feeling that everyone is doing this or that. The best for me to do is not to compare and focus on what I'm doing. By the way, your blog layout is lovely.
